The Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag received a report from the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development on the construction sector at the “Hours of great construction” meeting held Monday.

A policy is being carried out by the government and the Bank of Mongolia (BoM) for keeping construction material prices stable, but the price of cement soared last week. Then the Premier asked the Ministry a reason of the price soar.

“Cement factories had repair works in beginning of this month, thus the price reached MNT 200 thousand per ton and it lasted for three days due to a shipment delay. However, cement has not been sold at this price. Now, the price of this construction material has gone to a normal price,“ the Minister of Construction and Urban Development Ts.Bayarsaikhan replied.

According to the latest news, the price of apartments in suburban areas ranges from MNT one million and 100 thousand to 1 million and 500 thousand, whereas it in downtown areas reaches MNT 3 million per square meter. This is the price set by construction companies and investors, the Minister said. “Supporting national construction production companies by declining the import of construction materials is one of the best ways to reduce current prices of apartments,” he underlined.

“A cement factory with a capability of one million tons will be put into use by end of October and it is expected it will fully provide the country’s consumption by 2015,” Bayarsaikhan said, hoping that the price of apartments will become stable.

The last year, apartments of 11,400 families were constructed, and it is projected 14 thousand families will have apartments this year, he added.
