Paying an official visit here, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Ms Margaret Chan held Monday a meeting with women parliamentarians in the State House.
At the beginning of the meetings, which was named “Public coverage of medical aid and service”, a leader of the unofficial group of women MPs L.Erdenechimeg briefed about works done in recent times at initiatives of this group. Parliament approved a budget for introducing the single-benefit package aid for mothers in frames of a campaign on improving conditions of maternal houses, their group is focusing on protecting interests of children, women, the disabled and elders, she said.
In response, Ms Chen congratulated the Mongolian parliament on augmenting number of its women members, and expressed satisfaction with opinions with the MPs on social urgent problems.
Ms Z.Bayanselenge MP requested the WHO to continue support and technical assistance for Mongolia for refining upon the immunization system that is vital in saving the population’s health, and S.Odontuya said Mongolia needs to reform the health sector.
The Minister of Environment and Green Development S.Oyun MP asked the WHO to pay attention to the works being done for improving the infrastructure of ger (national dwelling) areas in the capital city where almost half of the population live, and for improving the environmental hygiene.
